・ Best Wrestler Award : Tetsuya Naito (NJPW)
~ Le leader de “Los Ingobernables de Japón”. Il a remporté le titre IWGP Heavyweight pour la 1ère fois de sa carrière en avril dernier ainsi que la NEW JAPAN CUP 2016 quelques semaines plus tôt. Il termine l'année en que champion IWGP Intercontinental.

・ Match of the Year Award : Naomichi Marufuji vs. Kazuchika Okada (NJPW - G1 : A BLOCK), 7/18 in Sapporo
~ Noté comme un match remarquable qui a placé la barre très haute dès le début du G1 CLIMAX. Les deux hommes ont mis tout le monde d'accord et ont gagné l'award en conséquence. Cela marque la troisième année consécutive où Okada remporter ce prix et la première fois en 8 ans pour Marufuji.

・ Best Tag Team Award : Daisuke Sekimoto & Yuji Okabayashi (BJW)
Noté comme l'une des meilleures équipes au Japon aujourd'hui, l'équipe Strong Big Japan a dominé la BJW et même l'All Japan Pro-Wrestling cette année, remportant même les ceintures AJPW World Tag.

・ Outstanding Performance Award : Kento Miyahara (AJPW)
~ Le plus jeune et actuel Triple Crown Heavyweight Champion. Miyahara s'était mis pour objectif d'être la tête d'affiche à la All Japan aujourd'hui en surmontant tous les challenger, ne reculant devant aucun défi devant lui. En novembre, il a battu l'As de l'All Japan Suwama pour conserver le titre majeur de la fédération.

・ Fighting Spirit Award : Katsuhiko Nakajima (NOAH)
~ L'actuel GHC Heavyweight Champion. Il a intégré la NOAH à plein temps en 2016 et est devenu l'homme qui a stoppé l'invasion des Suzuki-gun : tout d'abord en battant Sugiura pour gagner la ceinture en Octobre, puis en battant Suzuki lui-même ce mois-ci. Nakajima semble prêt à défendre l'honneur de NOAH.

・ Technique Award : Kenny Omega (NJPW)
~ Le leader actuel du BULLET CLUB et vainqueur G1 CLIMAX 2016. Il est devenu le premier gaijin à gagner la ligue G1, mentionnons d'ailleurs qu'il s'agissait là de sa première participation au tournoi !

・ Rookie of the Year Award : Chihiro Hashimoto (Sendai Girls)
~ Elle a fait ses débuts en Octobre de 2015 et a réussi en 1 an à défaire son professeur Meiko Satomura pour devenir l'actuelle Sendai Girls World Champion.

・ Joshi Wrestler of the Year : Io Shirai (Stardom)
~ Elle remporte cette award pour la seconde année consécutive.

・ Special Achievement Award : Hayabusa
~ Un award spécial a était décérné au regretté Hayabusa, décédé le 3 mars dernier.

Pas étonnant au niveau de la Joshi of the Year, surtout avec son récent heel turn qui redistribue toutes les cartes à la Stardom.
Très content pour Chihiro Hashimoto qui mérite vraiment le Rookie of the Year (bien que d'autres également, je pense)! En 1 an elle devient une valeur sûre de la Sendai Girls et l'une des meilleures jeunes Joshis.

J'ai pas maté masse de puro cette année, mais le fait qu'un match soit jugé meilleur que Styles/Nakamura de Wrestle Kingdom ne veut dire qu'une chose... Il doit être excellent !

il est très bon mais en effet ce n'est pas mon favori du G1

les matchs de Kenny Omega vs. Goto, Naito et Tanahashi étaient meilleurs selon moi.

Franchement, j'en attendais beaucoup de ce match, et j'ai été un peu déçu

La 1ère fois où je l'au vu j'étais encore comme un fou du Shibata/Ishi, et je l'avais trouvé bon sans plus
Je l'ai revu à part et j'ai vraiment accroché
Faut dire que j'ai jamais été un gros fan de Styles donc j'avais pas d'attentes ce qui m'a peut etre aidé

~ Tag Team of the Year = Daisuke Sekimoto & Yuji Okabayashi
Always one of the more powerful and cohesive teams in Japan for the last several years. These two always deliver something special when they are on point and work against another team that is looking to challenge them on both intensity and perseverance in the ring.

~ Fighting Spirit of the Year = Katsuhiko Nakajima
Nakajima had an up and down year, but it was all building towards his inevitable build towards being the one to finally rid NOAH of the overbearing Suzuki-gun presence. I would almost give him the honor for wrestler of the year, but in terms of more decisive matches he sadly got pushed down. Though it must say something that two former Kensuke Sasaki students are holding their own in two of the more notable promotions in Japan.

~ Match of the Year = Kento Miyahara vs. Jun Akiyama (Triple Crown, AJPW, 7/23)
So many solid matches to pick from this year, but the one I have chosen gets the nod because it had the most emotion and drive going in to and out of it. Miyahara was eager to prove himself worthy of holding the Triple Crown belt and the veteran and former champion himself Jun Akiyama looking to once more hold the belt.
[Also worth mentioning : Goto vs. Omega (NJPW, G1 Final, 8/14), Yuji Okabayashi vs. Hideyoshi Kamitani (BJW, World Strong, 7/24), and Kenoh & Ohara vs. Kotoge & Harada, NOAH, GHC Jr. Tag, 3/19]

~ Rookie(s) of the Year = Kaito Kiyomiya (NOAH, debut 12/9/15) and Takuya Nomura (BJW, debut 4/5/2016). A hard category to choose from. On one hand it is a breath of fresh air to see a potential rookie come forward in NOAH in Kiyomiya (though clearly being favored by the office early on as well). Then to see someone like Takuya come forward in Big Japan with a natural ability unfitting for someone who is less than a year in the career.

~ Special Honoring(s) = Hayabusa (Died, 3/3/16) and Haruka Eigin (Died, 11/28/16). 2016 saw many names who passed away, but in Japan we lost two names who were names of their times. Eigen was more famous in the 80′s and Hayabusa in the 90′s. Hayabusa though suffered a career ending injury in the height of his popularity, but both remained behind the scenes as they tried their best to pass their knowledge to the next generations.

As for honorable mentions I would also like to credit Tetsuya Naito (New Japan Cup, IWGP Heavyweight, and IWGP Intercontinental Champion in 2016), Shuji Ishikawa (KING OF DDT, KO-D Openweight, and BJW Tag Champion in 2016, as well as his teaming with Kohei Sato), and Masa Kitamiya, who has really gone a distance to prove himself as a solid singles competitor this year.

As for what we can expect in 2017? Atsushi Onita “retirement” is planned to happen sometime in the new year. Where will Suzuki end up? (ie. is there truth to the issues with Kidani or just fuel for publications). Then we have NOAH’s new era expected to begin in 2017. As well IGF’s new pro-wrestling focused group was getting plenty of talk. As for talent, any of the guys mentioned above, but also Yoshihisa Uto (BJW), Hitoshi Kumano (NOAH), and Tomoyuki Oka (NJPW) are among a few who might be making their own potential moments in the new year.
